From Five To Nine

One of my favorite Japanese TV dramas is "From Five to Nine," which is also known by its Japanese title, "5→9~私に恋したイケメンすぎるお坊さん (5→9: Watashi ni Koi Shita Ikemen Sugiru Obousan)" As a fan of the manga series by Miko Aihara, I found the live-action adaptation to be captivating in a whole new way. The drama was originally released in 2015 and consists of 10 episodes.

And many more

"From Five to Nine" is a Japanese television drama series that aired on Fuji TV in 2015. It is based on Miki Aihara's manga series of the same name. The narrative follows Junko Sakuraba, a 29-year-old English teacher who falls in love with a Buddhist monk named Hoshikawa Takane.

Here's a synopsis of the plot:

Junko Sakuraba (Satomi Ishihara) is a hardworking and passionate English teacher at a private high school when she is asked to go on a blind date with Hoshikawa Takane (Tomohisa Yamashita), who turns out to be a Buddhist monk. Although Junko is initially skeptical, she finds herself drawn to Takane's calm and kind personality.

What I like best about this TV drama?

It's difficult to choose which episode/s I enjoy the most because I enjoy the entirety of the show/drama. Every episode combines to catch your attention and heart.

One of the most interesting features of "From Five to Nine" for me is the chemistry between the two major characters, Junko and Takane. Their romance is beautiful and endearing, and viewers are frequently drawn into it, rooting for them to overcome the challenges they meet. The show also features an excellent supporting cast, with each character contributing something distinctive to the overall tale.

Furthermore, the show has received accolades for its stunning cinematography, notably its use of Tokyo as a backdrop. The city is displayed in all of its splendor, from the bustling streets to the tranquil temples and gardens.

Ultimately, the drama contains a strong theme of personal development and self-discovery, as both Junko and Takane must confront their own issues.

Do the cast fits the role?

Undoubtedly, the cast of "From Five to Nine" was a perfect fit for their parts in the Japanese series. Satomi Ishihara, who plays Junko Sakuraba, gives a terrific performance as an ardent and industrious English teacher looking for love and meaning in her life. Tomohisa Yamashita, who plays Hoshikawa Takane, the Buddhist monk Junko falls in love with, also portrays a tranquil and compassionate monk who struggles to balance his spiritual duty with his personal needs.

The supporting cast does an excellent job at bringing their characters to life as well, with each actor bringing their own distinct energy to the program.

Nevertheless, one of the show's assets is its casting, and the chemistry between the performers contributes to the show's enjoyment. Satomi and Yamapi work well together. They complementing together to create a fantastic drama.

What is the message of this film?

The show explores themes of love, relationships, and cultural differences.

One possible lesson based on the show's themes is that love can transcend cultural and socioeconomic boundaries. Junko and Hoshikawa come from extremely different backgrounds, yet despite this, they are able to connect and create a strong friendship.

Another lesson that might be conveyed is the necessity of being true to oneself and following one's passions, since both Junko and Hoshikawa battle with society expectations and demands in their personal and professional life. The show urges viewers to be welcoming of others and to seek love and happiness in their own lives.

Love is everywhere. The person that you will be spending the rest of your life will come in God’s perfect time. It is unexpectedly calm that could make you doubt or confused. Everything falls into place when it is really for you, no more buts and what ifs.

Verdict: 🌝🌝🌝🌝🌝 (5/5 moon)

Personal note: When viewing this show, I felt thrilled and would laugh. Mind you, I've already seen it about 5 times. To be honest, I wish it had 20 episodes or more because I can't get enough of it. By the way, the TV drama's official soundtrack is Christmas Song by Back Number, which has been on my playlist since then.

What are your thoughts about this film? Would love to hear from you. 💋
